Final Year Portfolio

I haven't done a blog post in over a year but it's been pretty impossible with the amount of work I had produce for my final year portfolio... not to mention dissertation...ahhh the stress!

So for the portfolio module we had to chose 3 areas of research that could be anything of interest and used as a source of inspiration...
I chose Food & Drink Brands, Architecture of Leeds & Quentin Tarrantino Movies... as you can see they could be as diverse or specific as you liked. We had to produce a research journal for each area, which for me involved a trip to the Museum of Brands in London and walking around Leeds taking lots of pictures of buildings (in the rain of course) !

Once we had our research and inspiration we had to decide on 5 fashion brands to design collections for. I chose Sibling, Pringle, Urban Outfitters, Diesel and H&M. For anyone who hasn't heard of Sibling before you should check out their range... it's so cool and I would praise any man (gay or straight) who has the balls (and style) to wear their stuff! http://www.siblinglondon.com/

We then had to create a customer profile, mood board and fabric/yarn board for each collection to base our designs on. The next stage was design development - pages and pages of sketching garment ideas for our final collections. Once we had enough ideas, we chose the best 24 pieces (for each collection) and then illustrated them professionally for portfolio presentation which is what my 20 hour days all boiled down to.

Hope you enjoy :)

Creative Knitwear Project

This term I learnt how to operate an industrial DUBIED knitting machine (much larger and more complex than the small domestic machines we used in the first term). We learnt several techniques on the machines in order to produce a portfolio of knitted samples which we then had to develop further with our own yarn and colour choices, to inspire a design for a new garment. Below are some of my best knitted samples which lead towards the design of my second jumper :)
